- Eighty athletes from six schools competed in Saturday's SSC Invitational Powerlifting work meet in the Blaize Gymnasium. Competing for the Rockachaws were nine young men participating in their first powerlifting meet and one defending state champion.

Caleb McQueen, who finished first in the 275 pound class at last year's state meet, competed in and won the 308 pound weight class at the invitational.

Joining Caleb in the winners' circle was Jackson Gilmore, whose 490 pound deadlift gave him a five pound edge over his nearest competitor in the 181 pound weight class.

Also finishing in the top three in their weight classes were Clint Nicholson (114 pound) and Nick Noto (123 pound).

Also competing for Saint Stanislaus were Alex Boudreaux (132 pound), Scott Zimmerman (148), Robert O'Neil (165), Tyler Hughes (181), Adam Haller (220), and Dale Johnson (275). Saint Stanislaus College will host a regional meet in February; the exact date of the meet will be determined over the next week.
