News
Allstate Sugar Bowl Regatta - SSC placed 4th overall at the 2007 Sugar Bowl Regatta.  Jesuit High School placed first followed by Brother Martin in second and third.  Sailing for SSC were:  Justin Veazey, Josh Cameron, Briou Bourgeois, Wright Singley, Jackson Weldon, and Richard Mitchell.

Great Oaks Regatta - Congratulations to the SSC sailing team for their efforts at the Great Oaks Regatta in New Orleans November 10th and 11th.  The team placed 14th overall in a field of 27 teams from all across the country.

On Saturday, teams competed for the opportunity to sail in the gold championship fleet the next day.  Stanislaus qualified for the gold, scoring better than all other teams in the southeast district (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and the panhandle of Florida) and teams from Washington and Hawaii.  Because we qualified for the Gold round, the second day was much tougher.  Our competition Sunday narrowed to those hailing from Maine, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Illinois, South Carolina, Florida, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The top scoring team was Providence Country Day from Jamestown, RI, followed by Marblehead High (Marblehead, MA), and Sarasota High (Sarasota, FL).

Competing for Stanislaus were:  Will Ashley, Briou Bourgeois, Josh Cameron, John Saxer, Wright Singley, Jackson Weldon, Justin Veazey, and Anthony Veneziano.

Meet the Team - The team participated in "Meet the Team" with SSC's soccer and basketball teams in the Brother Peter Gym on November 7th.  Thanks to the more than 30 sailors who represented our team well!  Thanks also to the parents who supported the teams.

Briou and Jackson took first place in SSC's "Come Back Regatta," Spring 2007

Recommended Gear
We would like you to purchase team gear so we all look sharp at practices and regattas.  We have short-sleeve t-shirts, long-sleeve t-shirts, hoodies, and shorts.  We sail year-round so be sure to prepare for the weather.  It's just as much fun to sail when it's cold IF you prepare.  For warm weather, shorts and t-shirts are great.  Additional gear you will need to be comfortable in the winter might include:

     Gloves
PFD--you MUST wear a USCG approved personal flotation device at all times.
Spraytop--a water resistant windbreaker will do
Spraypants--really help when it's really cold
Boots--neoprene sailing boots keep your feet warm, otherwise wear shoes and socks
Sailing team hoodie--has a warm hood to keep your body heat in.
Hat--warm wool or nylon skull cap type
Underarmour--or longjohns for when it's really cold
     Layers, layers, layers

Team apparel is now available.  See Mr. Zwerg for long sleeve t-shirts ($20), short-sleeve t-shirts ($12), shorts ($5, large only), and hoodies ($38).

If you would like to be outfitted with the best gear for the conditions we encounter, here are some very specific recommendations.  You don't have to buy these items now, but eventually, you'll want these items or something like them.  Most of these items are listed in Annapolis Performance Sailing's catalog (800-729-9767).  Ask for Riess Livaudais and a high school sailing discount.  You might also check with West Marine.

Gloves--a virtual "must-have."  Gill Championship Glove, DG7240 Fingerless.  Measure the circumference of your hand at the fullest point of the palm, not including the thumb. Sizes: 5"= XXS, 6"=XS, 7"=SM, 8"=MD, 9"=LG, and 10"=XL.  $27.95 from APS, 800-729-9767.  You can also get some nice gloves locally at West Marine in Biloxi (corner of Pass Rd. and Popps Ferry Rd.).

PFD--Extrasport Eagle XS-S, M/L, XL, XXL, Red/Black, available from Academy Sports at Crossroads Mall in Gulfport or online for $54.43.  Norge by Astral AST203, Red, SM/MD, LG/XL, or XXL.  $112 from APS.  Another APS choice would be the Extrasport Retro Avenger, Red/Gray for $110.  Sizes available are:  XS, SM/MD, LG/XL.
